Pastor Doland Taylor Humphries' Obituary
Pastor Doland Taylor Humphries, 88, of Locust, was peacefully called home by his Lord, Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Born in Cornelius to the late Garland and Winnie Humphries, he moved to Lexington in 1941 and is survived by his high school sweetheart and dear wife of 69 years, Cora Smith Humphries of Locust and his three children: Doug Humphries of Selma, Linda Thomas of Greensboro, and Cindi Ward of Locust.
He was preceded in death by his late brothers Harrison and Smith Humphries of Lexington; his half-siblings Lois Humphries Kraft of Virginia and Clyde Humphries of Texas.
He is survived by Smith’s wife Barbara, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He obtained his Bible, pastoral, and evangelistic training at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, School of Pastoral Care in Winston-Salem, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, Reformed Theological Seminary Charlotte, and received his BA from NC Wesleyan College and went on to pastor five Baptist churches: Dundas, Sulpher Springs, Pine Level, Highland, Southside (Joy Community) and taught Bible and apologetics at Sheets Memorial Christian School.
In addition, he co-founded the Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County.
All will miss Pastor Humphries for his sweet, humble, fun-loving personality and total devotion to God, his wife, his family, and his church.
The family extends a special thank you to Hopewell Baptist Church Pilgrim’s Class for their Christlike love toward our amazing Papa in his final years.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hopewell Legacy Campus (420 Hopewell Church Rd. Monroe, NC 28110) on June 24th. The Celebration slideshow will begin at 1:30 and the official service at 2:00. All are welcome!
