Opal Price's Obituary
Spicy Opal Barefoot Price, 97, passed peacefully on December 22, 2023, at Trinity Place in Albemarle. Opal was born May 2, 1926, in Johnston County, to the late Braxton C and Betty Morgan Barefoot. She grew up working hard on her family farm. She is the last survivor of 9 siblings. She graduated from Four Oaks School, and attended business college in Raleigh. She worked at Dorothea Dix Hospital, Wilmington Police Department, the NC Highway Patrol, and retired from UNC-Wilmington as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the Cameron School of Business.
Opal was active in her church, Kerr Memorial Baptist in Concord as long as her health allowed, and Ogden Baptist when she lived in Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lacy Price, brothers Kovess, Hoover, and BC Barefoot, sisters Mildred Lee, Mercedes Weekly, Atelia Smith, Juanita Caddell and Marjorie Washburn.
She is survived by daughters Jennifer Price of Concord, and Barbara Blalock and husband Daniel of Stanfield. Almost daughters include Phyllis Herschenfeld, Ronda York, and April Vaillancourt.
She will be buried beside her husband at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington at 2 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
