Oliver Doyle Doby's Obituary
Oliver "Poppy" Doyle Doby, 81, of Albemarle passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on December 15, 2022.
Born July 13, 1941, in Stanly County, NC he was the son of the late Charles Dewitt Doby and Lutie Blake Doby. He was an inventory control manager with Lorch's Plumbing and Heating as well as Homes by Oakwood. Mr. Doby was a member of Canton Baptist Church and a proud veteran of the US Navy. He loved to play golf as long as his health permitted. Mr. Doby was a wonderful writer and storyteller. He loved to write letters, poems and short stories for his grandchildren, and he loved to listen to music. As a huge UNC Tarheel fan, he enjoyed watching ACC Basketball. For the past several years, Mr. Doby texted everyone he loved daily and wished them a goodnight and told them that he loved them.
Mr. Doby was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Misenheimer Doby in 2017. Survivors include children Marty Doby of Albemarle, Sheri DuPuis (Rob) of Greensboro, Kim McNeal (Doug) of Apex, NC, half-sister Kay of Idaho, 6 grandchildren Shawn Doby and Katie Doby, Anna DuPuis and Nate DuPuis, and Laney McNeal and Sam McNeal. He was preceded in death by siblings, Lynn, Charles, Mickey, and Thana.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
