Oley Lee Cox III's Obituary
Oley Lee Cox III, 63, of Concord, passed away on July 23, 2025. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Sam F. Keziah American Legion Post 535 in Unionville, NC. The family will receive friends at the Post immediately following the service.
Born on April 26, 1962, in Orange County, California, Oley was the son of Oley Lee Cox Jr. of Supply, NC, and Carolyn Anne Jones Shenberger of Huntersville, NC. He proudly served in the United States Army and later co-owned and operated Action Pest Exterminating in Midland for many years. Deeply committed to his fellow veterans, he served as First Vice Commander of the Sam F. Keziah American Legion Post 535, where he found purpose, camaraderie, and the opportunity to serve others. A true patriot, Oley had deep respect for the American flag and held a lifelong dedication to honoring those who served—especially through his tireless work with the Legion post.
Oley was the kind of man who never met a stranger. With his warm personality and easy smile, he had a way of making everyone feel like a friend—no matter where they came from. He treated everyone with dignity and kindness and had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen and valued. His wife lovingly describes him as her rock—steady, supportive, and always by her side.
Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, Oley loved to joke and tease, always bringing laughter into the lives of those around him. But behind the humor was a heart of gold—he would drop everything to help someone in need, day or night, without hesitation. He had a generous heart and a deep compassion for others, often offering help before being asked.
Oley also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially those who had been abandoned or forgotten. His home was always open to pets in need, and he was never without the loyal company of his beloved pets—Precious, Jaxon, and Bolt—as well as his cherished porch cats.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Anne Crisco Cox; his parents; and his siblings: Pam Cox Caldwell and husband Bill of Mooresville, Carroll Cox and wife Linda of Harrisburg, and Sandy Cox Travis and husband Ben of Huntersville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, many friends, and, of course, his treasured four-legged companions.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Sam F. Keziah American Legion Post 535, 6112 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110.
Oley’s legacy of love, service, laughter, and unwavering patriotism will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
