Norma Anderson Sharkey's Obituary
Norma Wayne Anderson Sharkey, 90, passed away peacefully while being surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 24, 2017.
The youngest daughter of Edward and LuNell Anderson, Wayne was born on January 10, 1927 in Wadesboro, NC.
She grew up in Albemarle, NC and that?s where she met her husband Fred Anderson Sharkey.? Originally unimpressed, Wayne changed her mind after witnessing Fred?s dancing abilities.? On July 28, 1945, shortly after Fred returned from World War II as a bombardier on the B-24 Liberator, they were happily married until his death in 1990.
Together, they traveled the world and lived in several different places including Brazil, Suriname, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Port Lavaca, TX.
They had four children together, James Sharkey from Andrews, NC, Fred Sharkey Jr., of Murphy, NC, Robert Sharkey of Port Lavaca, TX, and Jane Cookson of Waxhaw, NC.
She had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.? She always had a story for them about her courtship, her memories from her childhood, what life was like during the Great Depression and the importance of saving money.
Until recently, Wayne lived very independently, still driving the streets of Charlotte.? It was not unusual to find her searching for deals in the aisles of Dillards and Stein Mart for loved ones.
She became a master of her hobbies: professional sewing; making, pouring, painting and dressing porcelain dolls; or turning a blank canvas to a beautiful oil painting. She also enjoyed cooking, and would find any excuse to put together a dessert for someone.
She loved eating at Olive Garden, listening to conversations, and reading about her grandchildren?s escapades on ?MyFace.?? If there was a baby in the house, she wanted to hold them; it didn?t matter if it was her child, grandchild, or great-grandchild; her arms were open and soothing.
A born-again Christian, she is now in the open arms of the Lord and finally reunited with her husband.
The family is planning a memorial at a later date.
