Rev. Nathaniel Wilkerson Fox's Obituary
Reverend Nathaniel Wilkerson Fox of Norwood, North Carolina passed into his loving Savior’s arms with peace and grace on Thursday, September 16th at the age of 93.
Born on February 22, 1928 in Roxboro, NC he was the son of the late Nathaniel Hassell and Irma Lenora Wilkerson Fox. He accepted the Lord June 30th, 1939 at age 11 during revival at Antioch Baptist Church. He was baptized July 9th, 1939. He attended North Carolina State University and Wake Forest College to receive his B.A. in Religion. Afterward, Nathan went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where he received his Master of Divinity. He was ordained at Roxboro Baptist Church on December 4th, 1949 and began his ministry at age 20, organizing Front Street Baptist Church in Roxboro. He pastored several churches before becoming the founding pastor of Memorial Baptist Church for 23 years. Since retiring, he has served over 24 interim pastorates.
Nathan is survived by daughter Anne Fox Cooper (Charles), son: Reverend George Nathaniel Fox (Anita); grandchildren: Joshua Cooper (Jennifer), Jeremy Cooper (Fiancé Carolyn Taylor), David Cooper (Lauren), Anna Wickham (Everett), and Josiah Fox; great-grandchildren: Madelynn, Nathaniel, Presley, and Bodie Cooper, step great-grandchildren: Anna Walker and Abigail Bruce; sisters: Mary Jane Fox Ould and Carol Rogers Fox; brother: Lewis Howard Fox. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years Mary Alice Starkey Fox, great-granddaughter Bexley Grace Cooper; and brother Jerry Hassel Fox.
Nathan will lie in state Saturday, September 18th at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care in Albemarle from 2-8 PM. A celebration of life service will be conducted by Dr. Josh Phillips at Memorial Baptist Church located at 873 Pee Dee Avenue in Norwood, NC on Sunday, September 19th at 3PM. Rev. Fox will lie in state from 1:30-2:45PM prior to the service in the church sanctuary. A private graveside ceremony will follow for the family. The family kindly requests masks of all attendees. There will also be a live Facebook stream through the ‘Memorial Baptist Church’ Facebook page.
