Michael Preston Laton Sr.'s Obituary
Michael Preston Laton, Sr., 68 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, October 29th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born July 17, 1954, in Albemarle to the late Preston Joshua “P.J.” Laton, Jr. and the late Juanita Burleson Laton. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Alene Laton.
The celebration of life will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Stanly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends directly after the service.
He is survived by his wife Kristen; son Mitch (Maryann) Laton; daughters Brooke (Neil) Senter, and Kellyn (Luis) Luna; 6 grandchildren, Austin and Dylan Laton, Mia and Ava Senter, and Layla and Emilia Luna, all of Albemarle.
Mike was the CEO of Custom Doors, Inc. where he worked since he was old enough of push a broom. Custom Doors was founded in 1952 by his father, P.J. Laton, and uncle, Paul Laton. Custom Doors received several awards, including Outstanding Business of the Year (2004). Very active in community service, Mike served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Stanly (Uwharrie Bank) from 2001-2010. He also served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, a volunteer fireman, fire chief, and board member for Eastside Fire Department, a member of the Stanly County Rescue Squad, and the Stanly County EDC. Mike was also a member of Albemarle Lodge no. 703, Scottish Rite, Charlotte Valley, and Oasis Shrine.
Mike loved spending time at the beach and watching the Green Bay Packers. More than anything, he was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. He taught them how to fish and they loved golfcart rides with their Pa.
Memorials may be made to Stanly County Homes of Hope, Stanly Community College Endowment Scholarship Fund, or the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital.
