Melvin Griffin's Obituary
Mr. Melvin Griffin, age 62 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at CMC-Main in Charlotte, NC.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Griffin will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Grace Baptist Church, 3411 Weddington Rd., Monroe, NC 28110, officiated by Dr. Phillip Hunter and Pastor Joe Haskett. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Garden.
Mr. Griffin was born on March 12, 1951 in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Reece Griffin and Rosie Harrington Griffin. He grew up in Union County, and cultivated a multitude of friendships throughout his life. Mel was employed for 31 years at Berry Plastics in Monroe, NC. He was a steady force in many lives and loved his family to the fullest. Mel's personal gift was making friends and his ability to make you laugh. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed riding his Harley and following NASCAR racing. His favorite pastime, though, was his music. In the past, he played with several bands and was well known for his lead guitar ability. Mel was a wonderful friend to a lot of people. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed. Special thanks from the family for the lifelong friendships Mel enjoyed with Al, Wayne, Mark and so many more.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Irene, of the home; children, Amy Little and husband John of Monroe, NC, Melanie Griffin and fiance Joshua Rape of Monroe, NC, Adam Griffin and girlfriend Leslie Snyder of Monroe, NC., grandchildren, Madison and Carson Little of Monroe, NC, his brother Don Griffin of Monroe, NC, sister, Barbara Baucom and husband Leonard of Monroe, NC, many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog, Abby.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, May 1, 2013, from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home; 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
