Mary Elaine Hibbs' Obituary
Mary Elaine Long Hibbs, 81, of The Landings, passed away August 20, 2021 in the Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis.
Born December 6, 1939 in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lester Carl Long and Mary Jean Murphy Long. She worked as an RN in doctor’s offices when her children were young and later earned her Nurse Practitioner Degree and became a diabetic educator. After retiring she and her husband moved to Albemarle, NC where she volunteered and was active in several organizations. Quilting and sewing were her passion and she was very talented at this art. Elaine entered a collection of her quilts and clothing in the local county fair and was honored with ribbons for her beautiful work.
Elaine is survived by her husband Denzil Hibbs, three children Daniel Ray Hibbs (Christine) of Chesterland, OH, Mary Elizabeth Simpson (Dennis) of Hoschton, GA, Jacqueline Ann Hass (Mark) of Wendell, NC, 2 brothers Carl Long of Parkersburg, WV and Robert Paul Long of Newbury, OH, 7 grandchildren, Daniel Stephen Hibbs (Emily), Rachel Mary Hibbs, Sarah Katherine Simpson Suddes (Thomas), Stephanie Suzanne Simpson, Garrett Frank Hass (Brooke), Brennen John Hass and Kaedyn Elizabeth Hass and 1 great-grandchild, Amber Louise Hass (Garrett & Brooke Hass). She was also preceded in death by a son, John Richard Hibbs.
