Mary Strider Chestnut's Obituary
Mary Jane Strider Chestnut, 81, of New London, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Chestnut was born July 16, 1934 in Stanly County to the late Jeanette Whitfield Strider and Rodolphus Strider.
Mary Jane graduated from Wake Forest University and was a school teacher in Stanly County for 35 years before retiring. She was a member of New London First Baptist Church where she played the piano and served in the church choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Wendell Chestnut, Sr.
Mrs. Chestnut is survived by her son Johnny Wendell Chestnut, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of New London; daughter Angela Chestnut Moore and husband David of New London; grandchildren Jeremy Daniel Chestnut and wife Jessica of Albemarle, Leanna Chestnut Duke and husband Jesse of Holly Springs, N.C., and Hayley Moore of New London; great-grandchildren Caleb Daniel Chestnut and Kaylee Marie Chestnut.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, May 6, 2016 at New London First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Otis Goins. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30am prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at New London Town Cemetery.
