Marvin James Phifer's Obituary
Mr. Marvin James Phifer, age 90, Wingate, North Carolina, entered eternal rest on Friday, June 27, 2014, at his residence.
A Graveside Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, June 30, 2014 in the Wingate City Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Andy Wells, with full military honors. The family will greet friends following the graveside ceremony.
A native of Union County, Mr. Phifer was the son of the late James Lee Phifer and Lula Ann Griffin Phifer. He was a retired contractor, and a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Mills Phifer, on May 3, 2014.
Mr. Phifer is survived by sons Dennis James Phifer and wife Ann Phifer of Wingate, and Jerry Dale Phifer and wife Barbara Phifer of Wingate and daughter Kathy P. Rape of Wingate, NC. Additional survivors include five granddaughters Gretchen Tyson of Monroe, Wendy Outen (Jim) of Wingate, Jennifer Guptill (Steve) of Wingate, Candace Williams (David) of Wingate and Tonia Pate (David) of Lancaster, SC.: three grandsons, Michael Rape of Monroe, Richard Phifer (Candy) of Wingate and Darrin Copeland (Connie) of Lancaster, SC. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren.
