Marion Lee Lewis' Obituary
"Capt. Pinky " Marion Lee Lewis, 88 formerly of Beaufort, passed on June 4th, 2013 in Union County Hospice House after a year long illness. He was surrounded by his family and held in loving prayer by friends.
Born September 9, 1925, he was raised by his grandparents Wilbur and Lula Lewis of Beaufort. He is survived by his wife Sybil S. Lewis of the home, daughters Suzy Lewis of Marshallberg, Fairy Boyce and husband Tom, Angel Helms and husband Chuck, Dana Lebron all of Monroe, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and his beloved pekingese Mattie. He is predeceased by his mother Kathleen Horne, Billy and Bobby Springle of Beaufort, his wife Audrey R. Lewis and a presumed deceased son Richard Lewis.
Capt. Pinky made his living as a sea captain working in the menhaden industry, tugboat industry, yacht charters and commercial fishing. He held the distinction of being the oldest living menhaden boat captain of the Beaufort Fleet having fished for Harvey Smith in Cameron La. He was captain of the Belford, the Shoal Harbor, and the Haverstick. As a tug boat captain, he piloted the Mainie for Carteret Towing Company.
Marion was raised to Master Mason in March of 1958 in Franklin Lodge of Beaufort and is a 55 year member. He also was initiated into the Scottish Rite.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 3 pm at Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory, Bridges Street, Morehead City NC with Rev. Paul Harris officiating. The family will receive visitors an hour prior to the service from 2 pm to 3 pm. Interment and Masonic Rites will follow at Oceanview Cemetery in Beaufort.
