Marion Louise Baker's Obituary
Marion Louise Baker, 83, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Hospice House of Monroe.
She was born on November 11, 1942, in Weldon, North Carolina, to the late Jonas Baker and Olivia Jones.
She dedicated her career to serving as an executive assistant with the New York City Board of Education, where she worked faithfully until her retirement.
Marion was an avid reader and enjoyed watching game shows, especially Jeopardy!, where she amazed her family and friends with her ability to answer every question. She had a huge heart and a nurturing spirit, always caring for others and making everyone around her feel loved, welcomed, and valued. But most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea Vega; two grandchildren, Ramel Baker and Nicholas Ingram; her brothers, Walter Gene Baker and William Sonny Baker; and her sisters, Gladys Neville, Jeanette Powell, Lilly Mae Whitaker, Anne Olivia Bishop, and Betty Jean Key.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Jena Williams of Monroe and Stephanie Baker of New York; her son, Robert Collins of Florida; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Doris Ann Mitchell and Mildred Hux; and many devoted nieces, nephews, and special friends who loved her dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Marion's life will be held at a later date in Maryland.
