Madeline Hathcock Melton's Obituary
Madeline Hathcock Melton, 85, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Monday, March 21. Her funeral service will be in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, March 24 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Wayne Bennett officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 at the funeral home prior to the hour of service.
Madeline was born on October 14, 1930 to the late Sam and Elmira Hathcock. She was married to Joe Z. Melton who preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister Mildred H. Eddins, a brother Dalton ?Bud? Hathcock, and an infant brother Thurman Hathcock.
She is survived by her loving sons Mike (Dawn) and Chris, of Albemarle, a dear sister-in-law Lois Garris, several special nieces and nephews and their families. She is also survived by Ann Horton and Kathy Edwards, who have lovingly and compassionately cared for her as their own and have become extended family.
Madeline was a devout Christian and lifetime member of North Albemarle Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the church choir for many years as long as her health allowed. She was a striking lady with an eye for fashion. She graduated from Albemarle High School in 1949 where she was honored as Miss Merry Christmas. She was employed in the hosiery division of Wiscasset Mills Co., became a devoted mother and homemaker, and was a buyer and sales associate for both James Clothing and LeeJames. She loved animals, spectator sports, and the outdoors, having spent countless hours on the beach and pier fishing on Oak Island in her retirement years.
The family wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to all who have cared for Madeline for over a year including Ms. Horton, Ms. Edwards, Joyce Swanner, and Theresa Dry. Further, we wish to thank Crystal Simpson, CMA and Paula Dixon, FNP-BC of Hope Medical Associates as well as Dr. Isaias Melo-Lizardo ?for the utmost in medical care, and Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie.
