Ly Kiang Lao's Obituary
Ly Kiang “Kim” (Lay) Lao, 64, of Albemarle, North Carolina, died in her home of natural causes on March 5th, 2024.
She was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1959, and lost both parents by the age of 17. Kim attended primary school until the Khmer Rouge civil war broke out and was forced to flee. She had completed 7 years of education. She was sponsored to North Carolina as a war refugee, married in Asheboro, and settled down in Albemarle, where she and her husband opened the Golden Palace legacy restaurant.
Ly Kiang is survived by her brother Ngeap (Muoi Keang) Teck, brother Jean-Pierre (Muy Chheng) Teck, her husband Mieng Chong Lao, son Peter Lao, son David (Natalie) Lao, granddaughter Junia Marie Lao, and daughter Maria Lao.
Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care will provide an open casket memorial service on Sunday, March 17th from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at 1835 Badin Road, Albemarle, NC 28001. We request no gifts please, as we will not be serving any food as we mourn for our loss of our beloved one.
