Lloyd "Buck" Swaringen's Obituary
Lloyd Keith ?Buck? Swaringen of Albemarle, N.C., died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Carolinas HeathCare System-NorthEast in Concord, NC. He was 86.
Buck was the son of the late Kate Forrest Swaringen and Paris Stanford Swaringen, members of two of Stanly County's earliest families. He was the widower of Margaret Hester Swaringen who died in 1981.
He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1948, attended Pfeiffer Junior College and graduated from Wake Forest University. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Wake Forest Law School and graduated in 1961. He practiced law for 30 years in Fayetteville, NC until retiring in 1994.
In 2001 Buck moved back to the Forrest home place in Albemarle where he remained active with his horses and cattle farming. He was a humble man who appreciated the simple things in life? and always looked forward to gathering with friends and family. He took great joy in the outdoors and spent every moment possible on his projects which included keeping the local deer well fed, fences mended, and the pastures mowed.
Buck was a strong man in body, spirit, and commitment. In 1977? when he married Margaret Hester Swaringen, he became a loving and selfless step-father for the rest of his life. He fulfilled every obligation he ever undertook. His word was his bond, and everyone knew it. The legacy of his character will live on for years to come.
Survivors include his step-son Richard Odom and wife Deborah of Albemarle, three grandchildren, Lauryn Odom age 4, Evan Odom age 11 and Brittney Little age 22. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Swaringen ?Hughes, of Issaquah, Washington and 4 nieces.
A ?celebration of Buck?s? life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 28 at Stanly Funeral Home, The family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 pm prior to the service. The
burial will follow the service in the cemetery at Stony Hill United Methodist Church.
