Linda Lee Hancock's Obituary
Linda Lee Hancock, 75, of Wadesboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte.
Born on January 8, 1950, in Salem County, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George Russell Hoffman and Doris Girtain Hoffman. Linda worked as a technician with the Anson County Water Department and was a member of South Stanly Baptist Church.
Linda will be remembered by her family as a feisty, vivacious, and transparent woman who lived life with fire and heart. She was selfless and giving, always wanting every child to have something special. A gifted storyteller, she had a loquacious nature and a love for laughter. Every conversation ended with her signature farewell, “Love you. Byeeeeeee,” stretching out the ending in a way that made those words unforgettable.
She loved music, especially “Kiss and Say Goodbye” by the Manhattans, and found joy in cooking and caring for her animals—chickens, pigs, and ducks that she adored feeding daily. She even had a hamster whose love of food matched her own so much that he passed away from overeating. Linda was also a devoted “Nana,” fiercely protective of her grandchildren and lovingly present in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hancock. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, George Carney (Kimberly Dailey) of Albemarle and Gary Carney (Michelle Carney) of Norwood; brothers, George Hoffman Jr. of Carneys Point, NJ, and Russell Hoffman of Penns Grove, NJ; sister, Dorothy Smith of Madison, NC; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her longtime life partner, Roger McLendon of Ansonville.
Linda’s spirit, her fiery personality, and the love she poured into her family and friends will live on in the stories they share and the memories they hold close.
