Larry Thomas Holt Sr.'s Obituary
Larry Thomas "TD Possum" Holt Sr., 84, formerly of Bost Street in Albemarle, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, at Quail Haven Village in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery (34156 Rehobeth Ch Rd. Norwood, NC 28128) with Pastor Jimmy Coxe and Worship Leader Sammy Frye officiating. The family will gather at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle from 12 Noon until 1 PM prior to the service.
Born on September 2, 1940, in Stanly County, NC, Larry was the son of the late Joel Thomas Holt and Thelma Ruth Simpson Holt. He spent much of his life serving others—whether through his work as a meat cutter at Harris Teeter in Albemarle, his time with Allison Manufacturing, or his later role at the Stanly County Convenience Site in Richfield.
Larry had a big heart and a generous spirit. He loved helping people, tending to his garden, and spending weekends at flea markets. He was an avid UNC Tar Heels and NASCAR fan, with a lifelong admiration for Richard Petty and the Earnhardts. He also enjoyed watching football and basketball—and never missed a chance to cheer for his favorite teams. Above all, he was a proud "mama’s boy" who cherished his family.
Larry is survived by his beloved companion, best friend, and soulmate Eleanor Story of New London; his daughter Rebecca Holt Brandt (Robert) of Gainesville, GA; his son Curtis Holt (Beth) of West End, NC; sisters Loretta Stoker (Buddy) of Gastonia and Jahala Baucom of Albemarle; and four grandchildren: Joshua Thomas Brandt, Jessica Leanne Brandt, Joseph Allen Brandt, all of Gainesville, GA; and Amber Holt Palmeiro (Preston) of Colleyville, TX. He was preceded in death by a son Larry Thomas "Tommy" Holt Jr. in 1977.
Larry will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the simple joy he found in everyday life. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed.
