Kathleen Morris Poplin's Obituary
Kathleen Louise Morris Poplin, 95, of Richfield passed away on August 2, 2023 in her home. Her funeral service will be 3 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Paul's Crossing Baptist Church with Rev. Marc Sessions officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care from 6 until 8 PM.
Born November 10, 1927 in Rowan County, NC she was the daughter of the late John Alfred Morris and Eva Earnhardt Morris. She was a member of Paul's Crossing Baptist Church and was a homemaker and a farm wife. Kathleen loved the beach and fishing and took pride in caring for the flower garden. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was always baking pecan pies and yeast rolls. She loved being a grandma and a mammaw and spending time with her sisters. Kathleen was so blessed to have a big loving family that all worked together to honor her wishes to stay home until she met Jesus.
Mrs. Poplin was preceded in death by her husband James Arthur Poplin. Survivors include three children, Lynn Poplin (Virginia) of Richfield, Karen Poplin Herlocker (Roger) of New London, and Chris Poplin (Kieoke) of New London, special family Wanda Smith of Richfield, sisters Nellie Little, Ruby Barringer, Julia Williams, and Shirley Williams, 12 grandchildren Craig Poplin (Kelly), Carrie Poplin, Josh Efird (Tonya Yount), Brian Efird (Haley Hatley), Jennifer Herlocker Kluttz, Kevin Herlocker, Melissa Elberson (Matt), Brooke Shank (Tommy), Adam Poplin (Brittany), Luke Poplin (Addi), and Seth Poplin, 18 great-grandchildren Clay Poplin, Elaina Efird, Kash Runions, Miley Efird, Katie Davis, Lucas Efird, Erica Knox (Quasar), Kolby Kluttz (Madison), Ashley Poplin, Summer Poplin, Hanna Elberson, Leah Elberson, Hugh Shank, Glenn Shank, Teagan Poplin, Sofia Poplin, Kynadee Furr, and Honey Poplin, great-great-grandchildren Auden Knox, Bryce Knox, Lylah Poplin, Zada Knox and Baby Knox (due November of 2023).
She was preceded in death by daughter Brenda Poplin Efird, son Dennis Poplin, and a baby boy that was stillborn in 1946, brothers James Morris, Norman "Lee" Morris, Earnest "Pap" Morris, Johnnie Morris, Robert "Bob" Morris and Charlie Morris, and sister Bonnie Parker and grandson Jason Poplin.
