Jomelle, so sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family. I remember the American Legion game we attended so many years ago! I lost my mother back in January. I believe she and your mother knew each other back in high school. She spoke of her occasionally. Otherwise, hope you are doing well..
We met Mr. Ferebee at a cemetery in Wilkes County where several family members were buried. Such an amazing gentleman. He told me so many stories while we were talking, I was amazed at all the knowledge he had one could have talked to him for day's!! I only learned later that he was a great coach!! He was an uncle to Florence Finnegan, who was in the group along with the Safrit's. From that day on we called him Uncle Joseph. Somewhere in our ancestry we were "cousins!! I just had my husband come and read his obituary! His words were oh no "Uncle Joseph". How blessed we were to have met this wonderful ,humble, intelligent man. I know he is rejoicing in heaven with the loved ones gone before him! He has a new body so "praise be to God" for having met this wonderful man just for a day!! Joe & Dean Eller Winston Salem, NC.

Coach Ferebee was a Monument of a man! He was a legend on and off the backfield. I had the pleasure of knowing him and Melba through American Legion baseball. They were two of the most wonderful people I've had the pleasure of meeting. He will be missed greatly. Thoughts and prayers 🙏 and much love go out to Jomelle, Joey, Rick and Mark at this most difficult time.. God bless you all.

So sad to read of the passing of Joe. He traveled with the Duke Powerful Retirees many years ago and I had the joy of meeting him and Melba. We corresponded for a while, still have his name in my address book. Such a joy to be around and pleasant with a beautiful smile. He lived such a good, long life, and what a fun life in sports teaching young folks. I am sure he was in inspiration to them all. Love and sympathy to the family.
