Johnnie Jean Helms Aycoth, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, in Monroe.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Mt Carmel Methodist Church, 1712 Carmel Church Road, Monroe, NC 28112, with Pastor De Hillyer officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM at Mt Carmel Methodist Church before the service.
Johnnie Jean was born on January 21, 1935, in Union County to the late Arlie Belk Helms and Grover Cleveland Helms. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was known for her kind heart, strong faith, and deep love for her family.
She had been a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Monroe, where she faithfully worshipped for many years. Johnnie found joy in the simple pleasures of life—she loved going to the lake with her husband, Monk, spending time with family, and creating lasting memories at family gatherings. She was well known for her delicious pecan pies, and she enjoyed canning and freezing food for her church bazaar. She also loved to cross stitch and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the love she showed to everyone.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Sybil Helms of Monroe; her nieces, Mica Whitlow (Tommy) of Midland, Sheila Smith (Billy) also of Midland, and Molly Davis (Tim) of Monroe; and several other beloved nieces and nephews. Her great nieces and great nephews held a very special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, David “Monk” Aycoth, her brothers; Ronnie Helms and Michael Helms; and her sister, Boots Broome, all of Monroe.
Johnnie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and the love she shared so freely with her family, friends, and community.
Davis Chapel-Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is serving the Aycoth family.
