John Gary Homesley's Obituary
John Gary Homesley, 80, of Albemarle, NC, passed away on September 14, 2023. Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Verla Whisnant Homesley, and their children Kendall Homesley Robinson (Brian), Darren Homesley, and Shannon Homesley. Gary was also blessed with grandchildren Caleb Homesley (Tori), Logan Homesley, Robbie Robinson, Brandi Robinson, and Larson Robinson, and great-grandchildren Jaden Homesley and Charmi Robinson. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Homesley.
Gary was born November 12, 1942, in Lincolnton, NC, to the late Irene Christopher Homesley and John Henry Homesley. He attended Lincolnton High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at UNC Charlotte. He had a successful career as a restaurant owner/operator of 52 North Restaurant, previously Western Steer Family Steakhouse, in Albemarle, NC. Prior to his time as a restaurateur, he worked as an adjuster for Travelers Insurance in Charlotte, NC.
Gary valued people. He enjoyed meeting, interacting with, and helping others. Many people have expressed admiration and respect for the efforts, actions and unconditional support he showed throughout his life. He especially loved his family who see him as their rock and are proud to be his legacy.
The team at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements. Gary’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium at First Lutheran Church in Albemarle, NC.
