John Henry Heyer, Jr. 88, of New London passed away on October 16, 2020 at his home. A funeral mass will be held at 11AM on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albemarle. A private burial will take place at Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.John was born in Red Wing, MN to the late John Henry Heyer and Ann Marson Heyer. He was a 12-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1960. The Heyer family moved to North Carolina from Minneapolis, MN in October 1966 to open a small bar and grill located in Southeastern Rowan County that came to be known as John's Tavern. "JOHN'S" grew and gained popularity in the area during his 38-year ownership and was highly regarded by many as ?the place to go" for great food, excellent service, and entertainment.
Mr. Heyer is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Ann Sherry Heyer; son Gregory Michael Heyer; daughter Anne Heyer Tenney; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters: Mary Heyer Rooney and Carol Heyer Lichliter. He is preceded in death by his sister Lois Heyer Alexson.Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Heyer family.
