Joe Ray Underwood's Obituary
Joe Ray Underwood, 91, of Albemarle passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in his home. His funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeremy Holt and Rev. David Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 until 11 prior to the hour of service.
Born July 31, 1932 in Stanly County, NC he was a former employee of the Stanly News and Press and retired from Walter Printing. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a photographer for many years and often did wedding photography. He also enjoyed working in the yard.
Mr. Underwood is survived by his wife of 71 years, Maxine Speights Underwood of the home. Other survivors include children Tony Underwood and wife Saundra of Albemarle, Terry Underwood and wife Nina of Albemarle, and Tracy Burgess wife Kaylene of Mt. Gilead, five grandchildren, Jill Underwood, Wesley Underwood, Scotty Burgess, Travis Burgess and Daniel Underwood, and two great-grandchildren Logan Underwood and Preston Underwood.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Underwood to, Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie, 960 N 1st St, Albemarle NC 28001 or a charity of choice.
