Joe E. Huneycutt's Obituary
Joe E. Huneycutt peacefully passed away at Atrium Health Stanly on August 8, 2020 at the age of 82. He fought a long battle after his farm accident over 2 ? years ago.
Joe was predeceased by his father Vernon Joe Huneycutt and mother, Helen Mae Eudy Huneycutt.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty Little Huneycutt, and they would have celebrated their 61st anniversary August 9. Joe also is survived by his sons, Donald Joe (Delinda) Huneycutt and Christopher Newsome Huneycutt, grandchildren Halee (Richard) Clontz, Wesley (Kayla) Huneycutt. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Emma, Jamie, Addie, and Josiah Huneycutt, and Rheliana Clontz. His eyes would light up every Sunday evening when the entire family would gather at his house for supper. He is survived by his brother Bobby C. (Nancy) Huneycutt, sister Yugonda (Dennis) Underwood and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was a life-long resident of Oakboro, born July 13, 1938, and graduated from Oakboro High School in 1956. He continued his education at Nashville Auto Diesel in Nashville, TN. After this training he worked at Crook Motor Company and Stanly County Schools System. His career continued in the heavy equipment industry as mechanic, service manager and training director for Mitchell Distributing and L. B. Smith. He traveled extensively across the southeast United States for business, and he and Betty enjoyed many trips together, including Hawaii, Germany and Cancun. Being an avid NASCAR fan, he rarely missed a race on TV, but also traveled to the races in person. Joe enjoyed helping others when possible, including mowing lawns for the church and ladies in the community. Farming was a passion of his from early childhood, from raising cows to working and reaping the fields.
Family visitation will be held at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle, NC Monday evening, August 10, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Oakboro, NC, and a celebration of life will be held in their Fellowship Building at 310 N. Haywood St., at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 11, with Rev. Jonathan Waits and Dr. Terrell Watts officiating. Interment will follow at Oakboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Oakboro, PO Box 10, Oakboro, NC 28129 or the Building Fund of St. Stephens Wesleyan Church, 7601 Brusharbor Road, Concord NC 28025.
