Joann Helms' Obituary
Mrs. Joann Mills Helms, age 86, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, at Autumn Care of Marshville.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Joann Mills Helms will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Reverend Chris Justice and Reverend Charles Broome. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1901 Lancaster Highway, Monroe, North Carolina 28112.
Mrs. Helms was born on April 1, 1930, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Raymond L. Mills and Vinnie Helms Mills.
She was married to the late Holland Blair Helms, who passed in 1985.
Joann was a graduate of Benton Heights School, a founding member of Sutton Park Baptist Church, was the former owner of Joann's Hallmark Store, and retired as a teacher's assistant with the Union County Public School System at Wesley Chapel Elementary School.
Survivors include a son, Blair Mitchell Helms and wife Mary, of Indian Trail, NC; a daughter, Sherry Ann Keziah and husband Donald, of Monroe, NC; three grandchildren, Anna Rorie and husband Josh of Monroe, NC, Lea Ann Tyson and husband Ryan of Monroe, NC and Matthew Helms and wife Shelly of Beaumont, TX; there are eight great- grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 1, 2016, prior to the ceremony at Davis.
