Jerry Hunter's Obituary
Jerry Hunter, 87, of Locust, NC entered into the arms of Jesus on December 19, 2023 at Spring Arbor Senior Living of Albemarle. His celebration of life service will be at First Baptist Church in Midland on Friday, December 22 at 2PM with Dr. Rev. Kenneth Wallace and Rev. Randy Lankford officiating. The family will receive friends from 1PM til 2PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
Jerry was a devoted Charlotte Fire Fighter of 25 years before he retired to help care for his mother Reecie Mae (McCray) Hunter who was in a nursing home at the time. He loved his firefighter friends and always stayed in touch with them even after he retired. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church in Midland and loved his church family. Jerry never met a stranger and loved talking and joking with others.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Wesley Hunter; mother, Reecie McCray Hunter; sister Peggy Mullis, brothers Floyd Benton Hunter, Larry Wayne Hunter, and James Rance Hunter. Jerry is survived by his daughter Donna Roberson and her husband Bo, sister Bobbie Sue Hunter, brother Wesley Lance Hunter (Phyllis), two grandchildren, Amanda and Monica, great-grandchildren, Baylee and Hayden, sister-in-law Polly Hunter, and several other family members including nieces and nephews.
Jerry's family would like to extend a heartfelt special thanks to a special friend, Pat Drake, and the staff of Spring Arbor for their love and compassion. Jerry enjoyed his time there making new friends, as well as talking and joking with them.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church-Midland at 4720 Garmon Mill Road , Midland, NC 28107.
