Jerry Luther Barbee, 82, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus surrounded by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Delane Burris. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Jerry was born on November 17, 1943, in Stanly County to the late Martin and Lizzie Barbee.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Mullis Barbee; his son, Chad Barbee (Jeannie); grandchildren, Brandon Barbee (Lindsay), Ashlann Hurley (John), and Aleeah Finch (Alex); and great-grandchildren, John Frank Hurley IV, Shiloh Chad Hurley, and Shepherd Buster Finch.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Ramelle Hinson, Betty Whitley, and Tink Bagley.
Jerry was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church. He cherished time spent with his family and friends and was known for his quick wit, strong opinions, and gift for storytelling. While he enjoyed fishing, he would be the first to admit that success on the water often eluded him; a fact that provided plenty of laughter and stories over the years. His warm personality, sense of humor, and genuine love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Atrium Health Stanly and Atrium Health Cabarrus, as well as the many family members and friends who provided care, support, and encouragement during Jerry's declining health.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 644 Edgemont Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
Jerry leaves behind a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, stories, and love. His presence will be greatly missed, but the lessons he taught, the smiles he shared, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
