I knew Jeff as my best friend's dad as I grew up (going all the way back to 1st grade). People say to be careful how you live, as kids can pick up many things just from "observing" you.
One of the first things I noticed about him was a deep care for his family and his neighbor. There was a presence of wanting to make sure his family was cared for and his kids raised in a Godly manner. That had a notable positive influence on my faith in Jesus Christ and understanding how that can be lived out in the world.
He was also one of the most humble people I have ever met, willing to be present and do his best in service of others, recognizing both what he was given and his own limitations. It was a treasure to see that humility lived out so consistently for such a long period of time.
Finally, his sense of humor stands out as memorable. Many laughs had with him over the years as he shared tidbits of "funny wisdom" from observations going through life.
This is one of the saddest moments of my life, though I am thankful for the gift of knowing him for most of that time, and for the fact that while he will be deeply missed here on this earth, this isn't sadness without hope and look forward to seeing him again.
