Jay Lee Smith's Obituary
Jay Lee Smith, 86, of Oakboro went home to be with Jesus on March 15, 2016 with his children by his side.
He was born on March 15, 1930 to the late Crowell "Fred" and Bessie Louise Smith.
After serving in the US Army, he began a career as a long-haul truck driver and later retired as a diesel mechanic from Collins and Aikman.
He was an active member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon,?Sunday?school teacher, and usher for over 30 years. ?He will always be remembered for his devout faith and pockets full of candy.
On Friday?nights, you would find him out at Junior's fellowshipping and listening to bluegrass music. At other times, he enjoyed spending time with his family, reading and studying God's word, gardening, and tending to his animals.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Josephine Smith. Left to cherish his memories are wife, Betty Spivey Smith; daughters, Kay Eddins and Lynn Morris; son, Carl Smith; grandchildren, Amber (Scott), Megan (Chris), Candace (Luke), Josh, Jacob, Jaycie, Jeremiah, Joseph, Malachi, Micah; great-grandchildren, Joci, Greyson, Noah and Silas; sisters, Clonnie Mae Eudy, Carlena Griffin, and Mary Howell (Larry); ?step children Angela Smith (Wesley), Alisa Hatley (Ronnie); 6 step-grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild,?and grand kitty, Miles.
Funeral services will be held at?2pm?Friday, March 18, 2016?at Mineral Springs Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Brian Medlin. The family will receive friends from?12 to 2pm?prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of his daughter. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
