Jane Stewart Thomas' Obituary
Mrs. Jane Stewart Thomas, age 89, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Novant Health Medical Center in Matthews.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Davis Funeral Chapel; 1003 East Franklin Street; Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Dr. William R. Jeffries and Dr. Arlen Smith.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Thomas was born on August 5, 1924, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late E. C. Winchester and Annie Burns Winchester.
She graduated from Monroe High School and attended WC-UNC in Greensboro - Class of 1946. She had an active life. She was a former school teacher, in retail clothing business for many years as co-founder and co-owner of Stewart's Men's Store, and in real estate for over 40 years. She was also a longtime member of Providence United Methodist Church, Chipley Bible Class, and Circle 7 in Charlotte.
She was married to the late R. C. (Pat) Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dr. William (Winky) R. Stewart; two brothers, Edwin Winchester and Page Winchester; and her sister, Martha Burns.
Survivors include her son, Robert Page Stewart, and wife, Vickie, of Monroe; her daughter, Patricia S. Amos and husband, Garland, of Concord; two grandchildren, Jessica Morris and husband, Ken, of Monroe, and G. Patrick Amos of The Howell Center of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Emily Morris and Kendall Morris, both of Monroe. There are a number of nephews, nieces, and step-grandchildren.
