James Monroe Napier's Obituary
Mr. James Monroe Napier passed away peacefully Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 8:38 AM at his home.? There will be a memorial service and life celebration for James Monroe Napier on Saturday February 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle. James was born October 16, 1925 in Montgomery County but raised in Stanly County. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman M. ?Peewee? Napier and Lucy Luther Napier and a brother Harland David Napier. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1943 where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He later played American Legion baseball. He participated in the Boy Scouts and became assistant Scoutmaster. James was drafted into the United States Navy and proudly served upon the USS Ebert DE serving in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters of World War II. He served from 1943-45. He was a lifelong mechanic and handyman and retired from Servco (formerly Service Distributing Co.) and retired in 2000. He was a member of Second Street Presbyterian Church (PCA) for 70 years serving as Sunday School secretary, Deacon, and Elder. He was bestowed the title of Elder Emeritus. James was the very first president of North Stanly Adult Booster Club. He was a loyal supporter of the Comets for many years. He enjoyed his family, his church, his Scottish heritage and the Highland Games, reading the newspaper, sports and his furry companion.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Austin Napier of the home, son Stan Napier (Nancy) of New London, and son Phillip Napier (Ruby) of Carolina Beach.
He is also survived by grandchildren Lauren B. Tyson (Quentin), Chase Napier (Maria), Wayne Napier (Chasidy), and Jessica N. Morgan (Mark) along with three great grandchildren Sophia Napier, Bishop Tyson and Isaac Napier.
The Reverend John C. Black will officiate the service. Stanly Funeral Home will be serving the family.
