James Leighton Mount's Obituary
James (Jim) Leighton Mount, 85, of Locust, passed away, Thursday, June 30, 2022 in his home.
Jim was born on February 10, 1937 in Erie, KS to the late Harold Mount and Helen Crab Mount. He graduated in 1962 from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Journalism. During his career, Jim worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Snyder Clinic located in Winfield, KS, and eventually retired after 25 years as the medical administrator for the Sylva Medical Center. Jim was proudest of his time in the United States Navy serving on the air craft carrier USS Lexington.
Jim is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Lora Lee Mount, as well as his three sons Jeff, Kevin, and J. R. He is also survived by his two sisters, Linda Vaughn and Jill Copeland; five grandchildren, David, Andy, Emerson, Ellison and Everett and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Samuel. Jim also had two wonderful daughter-in-laws, Mary Beth (Jeff) and Laurel (J. R.).
Mr. Mount was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church located in Sylva, NC. He was an active member of the church for over three decades and donated to various missionaries.
Jim made friends wherever he went and loved people. He was past President for the Optimist Club of Sylva as well as the National Medical Group Managers Association. His passion for playing bridge culminated in becoming a Life Master in bridge.
This obituary doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of who Jim Mount was; how much his family loved him or how much he loved his family.
A private memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel of Locust with Rev. Ron Loflin officiating.
