James "Jimmy" Albert Register's Obituary
James “Jimmy” Albert Register, 79, of Monroe, NC residing in Morristown, TN passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Regency Retirement Village.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Wednesday evening, March 18, 2026, at Davis Chapel - Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Monroe. A graveside service will be at 12 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Mausoleum in Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC, with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Entombment will follow.
Born April 29, 1946, in Southport, NC to the late Wilbur Chapman Register and Maggie Alda Register.
Jimmy graduated from Shallotte High School in 1964. He then spent a year in Charlotte, NC for Business college where he met his future wife Martha Ellen Moore. He volunteered to join the United States Air Force on October 8, 1965. One year later on October 8, 1966, he married Ellen.
Jimmy proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years. During his military service he was in aircraft maintenance and was assigned to many locations around the world. He began basic training at Lackland AFB, TX. His technical training took him to Keesler AFB, MS and Columbus, OH. His first duty assignment was Pope AFB, NC where his only child, James Lynn Register, was born. He was then assigned to Eglin AFB, FL. While at Eglin he was deployed to Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, he and his family were assigned to Bitburg AB, Germany. His final duty assignment was to Hurlburt Field, FL and the 1st Special Operations Wing. As the superintendent of aircraft maintenance for C-130’s and HH53’s he was responsible for ensuring their maintenance and readiness. These aircraft participated in several notable operations to include… The 1980 Iran Hostage Crisis and the 1983 Police Action in Grenada.
Upon his retirement in 1988 from the United States Air Force, he and Ellen returned to Monroe, NC where they built their forever home. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Sandyridge Baptist church and Secrest Grove Baptist church where he served as a Deacon.
He worked for Carolina Pest Management for over 20 years, where he received technician of the year several times. His military work ethic served him well in the civilian world.
Jimmy is lovingly survived by his son, James Lynn Register (Laura), grandchildren, Melanie A. Anders and James Alexander Register, brother, David S. Register, and sister, Winifred Wellman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ellen Register, and brother, Thomas Register.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Missy and Kayla, Jimmy’s Monroe, NC neighbors and the staff at Regency Retirement Village for the care and support provided to Jimmy during his declining health.
