James Ray Harvey's Obituary
James Ray Harvey, 52, of Waxhaw, passed away on July 1, 2025, at the Union County Hospice House.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Davis Chapel with Barry Godfrey officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Davis Chapel in Monroe.
Born March 21, 1973, in Stanly County, NC, James was the son of the late Zeanus Harvey and Debra Kay Whitley Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Zeanus Eugene Harvey. James worked as a truck driver with Trent Little Trucking.
Known affectionately as "Mister Goodtime," James was larger than life—a biker, a fireball, and a true friend to everyone he met. He was bold, kind-hearted, and always up for a good laugh. He had a saying that captured his spirit: "I is what I is." He loved the river life and could often be found relaxing on his pontoon boat. A brother to all, he loved doing burnouts on his motorcycle.
Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband—playful and mischievous, always giving his wife a hard time, but with a heart full of love.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Walker Harvey, of the home; his sister, Michelle Melton and husband David of South Carolina; uncles Ronnie Whitley and wife Jessica of Rock Hill and Donnie Kiser of Monroe; niece Hailey Hogue and husband Evan of Monroe; and his beloved fur babies, Roxie and Charli.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Monroe VFW 5464, Veterans Assistance Fund, PO Box 1024, Monroe, NC 28111.
James was a biker and the family requests that those in attendance dress appropriately. Jeans and biker attire are welcomed and preferred.
James will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Davis Chapel-Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Monroe is serving the Harvey family.
