James R. Fitzgerald's Obituary
James R. Fitzgerald, age 84, passed away at his home in Mount Gilead, NC, on Monday, January 18, 2016, after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and William Fitzgerald of Grant, Nebraska, a brother and a sister.
After high school in Grant, NE, Jim attended Hastings College and Colorado State University. ?After serving with U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
While living in Denver, CO for 50 years, Jim had a 27-year career with the Johns-Manville Corporation.? In retirement he owned and trained thoroughbred horses that raced throughout the Midwest.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marilyn Fitzgerald, daughter Pamela J. Fitzgerald of New Orleans, LA; son John A. Fitzgerald and wife Darlene and their children Rachael, Ryan, and Olivia, all of Waxhaw, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Albemarle. Final resting place will be Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.
The family suggests donations to the Stanly County Family YMCA in Albemarle, NC, or a local charity of your choice.
