James Howard Chavis' Obituary
James Howard Chavis, 77, of Albemarle, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at his home. A Funeral service for Mr. Chavis will be held at 2PM on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Dunns Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Jeremy Holt. Visitation will be held from 1-2PM prior to the service at the church. Burial to follow at New London Cemetery.
Howard was born December 25, 1942 in Richmond County to the late James Chavis and Flora Ellen Smith Chavis. He retired from both E.J. Snyder & Co. and Gentry Mills as a supervisor. Mr. Chavis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was also a member at Dunns Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Cathy Culp Chavis; childrenTony Chavis (Marla) of Albemarle and Shannon Chavis of Albemarle; grandchildren Johnny Shaver (Holly), Jared Chavis (Brittany), Kelly Hathcock (Bucky), Joey Chavis (Anna), Hannah Lear (Brian), Brandon Chavis (Shannon), Brittany Chavis, Amber Chavis, Sierra Chavis, Sydnee Chavis and Ryan Chavis (Keosha) and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Chavis was preceded in death by sons Mark Chavis and Christopher Chavis; sisters Lucy Hulon, Barbara Goer, Orene Quick, Mary Knight, and Becky Jackson.
