Mr. James Hobart Burris, age 88 of New London, N.C. passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Stanly Manor Nursing Center, Albemarle, N.C.?? His service?will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Bethel United Methodist Church,?New London, N.C. with the Rev. Kevin McCormick officiating.? Burial will be in?the church cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County?DAV Ritual Team.? The family will receive friends at the Stanly Funeral Home on Friday?evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Mr. Burris was born December 27, 1927 in Stanly County to the late James Craven Burris and Nola Mae Morton Burris.? He was a former employee of Service Distributing?of Albemarle and also was self employed truck driver.? He was a veteran of U.S. Navy serving on the USS Missouri and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church?in New London.
Mr. Burris was married the late Gwendolyn Chandler Burris who preceded him in death?April 10, 2013. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Mariene Burris Smith.?? Survivors include a son David Burris of New London, a daughter, Joyce B. Hatley and husband Earl of Albemarle, two grandchildren, Bradly Austin Burris and wife Kayla of Albemarle and Heather Breanne Burris of New London. Five great-grandchildren, Nixie Burris, Alister J. Burris, Diesel Rayne Barbee, Kayla Marie Hatley and Xavier Blythe.
