James Clayton Burris' Obituary
James "Clayton" Burris, 87, of Red Cross passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. His funeral service will be at 3PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Big Lick Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jeff Springer. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2-3PM in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Burris was born April 6, 1934 in Stanly County to the late James Claud Burris and Mary Faye Smith Burris. Clayton was a member at Big Lick Baptist Church where he was very active. He served as a previous choir director, he was a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and was part of the building and grounds committee. Mr. Burris was a very hard worker, and he took much joy in his work. He was willing to help anybody out no matter what they needed.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 67 years Irene Morton Burris; daughter: Trina Burris Plowman (Rodney) of Red Cross; son: Randall C. Burris of Red Cross; grandchildren: Crystal Elizabeth McCall of Red Cross, and Zachary Dylan Burris of Red Cross; sister: Judy Love of Red Cross; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a brother Craig Burris and his sister Sue Burris Poplin.
