Ikey Alexander Burnette's Obituary
Ikey Alexander Burnette, 87, of Locust passed away on March 2, 2023 in Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle. His funeral service will 3 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Locust with Dr. Kinney Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 prior to the service.
Born March 12, 1935 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Flecus Alexander Burnette and Hattie M. Simpson Burnette. He was retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as Grounds Crew Chief. He also worked for Charlotte Housing Authority for five years after he retired. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Locust.
Mr. Burnette is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret Hussey Burnette, of the home. Other survivors include two sons Ikey Scott Burnette of Virginia and Tony Allen Burnette of Virginia, step children Teresa Wallace (Dale) of Robbins, Randy Cagle of Idaho, Viola Maness (Donnie) of Robbins, Bruce Cagle of Star, NC, Amanda McNeill (Arthur) of Seagrove, Casey Cagle of Locust, siblings Ted Burnette of Midland, Wade Burnette of Peachland, Judy Eudy of Concord, and Ann Simpson of Concord, step granddaughters Chelsey Blake and Tiffany Allen and three step great-great grandchildren Remington Blake, Levi Allen, and Peyton Allen. He was preceded in death by his first wife Willie Walters, brothers Charles, Clarence, Floyd, Grady and sisters Lula, Faye and Mary, stepson Jeffrey Cagle and step grandson Tyler Maness.
