Helen Thorpe Newton's Obituary
Helen Thorpe Newton, 95, of Albemarle passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 in the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte. Her funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at South Stanly Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Mowery and Rev. Dr. Darrell Huneycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Norview Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:30 at the church prior to the hour of the service.
Born June 16, 1924 in Iredell County, NC, she was the
daughter of the late Walter C. Thorpe and Mary Gatton Thorpe and was retired
from Collins and Aikman of Norwood. Mrs.
Newton was a member of South Stanly Baptist Church and loved flower gardening.
Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband Daniel
?Dan? Wayman Newton. Survivors include
sons Steve Newton (Jeanne) of Rockingham and Larry Newton of Albemarle,
daughter Wendy Bell (Jim) of Albemarle, brother Robert Thorpe (Polly) of
Norwood, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Lisa Annette Newton, also
preceded her in death.
