Hazelene Starnes Montgomery's Obituary
Hazelene Starnes Montgomery, 100, of Albemarle, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Bethany Woods Nursing Home and Rehab. Her graveside service will be held 11am Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Fairview Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Whitley officiating.
Mrs. Montgomery was born August 23, 1922 in Cabarrus County, NC to the late George Preston Starnes and Rosa Lee Harvell Starnes. Hazelene retired from Knitsters. She was loved and blessed by looking after and caring for her siblings during illnesses. Mrs. Montgomery loved playing High School basketball and was all conference forward her Senior year. She loved dancing, where she and her partner won several Jitterbug Competitions. She truly loved listening to Southern Gospel Music.
Hazelene was preceded in death by her husband Howard C. Montgomery. She is survived by two sons, Monty Montgomery (Joan) of Martinsville, VA and Kent Montgomery of Wilson, NC; a daughter-in-law, Ann B. Byrd of Albemarle, NC; two grandsons, Eric Montgomery (Carolyn) and Brad Montgomery; two granddaughters, Rebecca Rich (Chad) and Suzanne Montgomery; two great-grandsons, James Montgomery and Wyatt Rich; three step-grandsons, Keith Barnes (Susan), Scott Barnes (Renee) and Patrick Barnes (Tammy) and six step-great-grandchildren, Paxton Barnes (Morgan), Kenan Barnes, Anna Barnes, Patrick Barnes, Jr, Gabriel Barnes and Reagan Barnes and three great-great-grandsons, Nolan, Fletcher and Whitley Barnes.
Mrs. Montgomery is also preceded in death by a son, Don B. Montgomery and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Montgomery and her seven siblings.
The family would like to thank the workers at Bethany Woods for their kind and loving care that was shown to Hazelene during her stay.
