Harry Curtis Metz's Obituary
Harry Curtis Metz, 92, of Locust passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday February 6, 2024, at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, Charlotte, NC officiated by Rev. Brian Bolding. No formal visitation will be held.
Mr. Metz was born June 25, 1931, in Roanoke, Va to the late Ralston and Ruth Metz. He is lovingly survived by his wife Mary Metz of 71 years. He is also survived by sons; Steve Metz of Charlotte, NC, Jeff Metz (Lori) of Vinton, Va, and daughter; Valerie Gladden (Wylie) of Huntersville, NC. Grandchildren: Chris Metz, Natalie Gladden, Erin Metz, Elliott Gladden (Charlie) and a great-granddaughter to be, coming in March 2024. He is also survived by brothers; Jim Metz (Cynthia), David Metz (Pam), sisters; Norma Thornhill (Bill), Lois Ferris (Donnie) and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Metz was predeceased by brothers; Gene Metz, sisters; Ruth Reynolds and Ann Wright.
Mr. Metz was most proud of his Naval career, having served on the USS Salem. Mr. Metz having retired form candy sales, was affectionately known as the Candyman as he provided sweets to all his children and the neighborhood kids. He loved his family, loved family gatherings and was truly the light of every party. He was known for his quick wit and for being a jokester. He never met a stranger.
