Gurney Ernest "Junior" Hatley, Jr., 85, of Albemarle passed away on November 5, 2022 in Trinity Place, Albemarle. His funeral service will be at 2 PM on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. David Read Obituary
My favorite teacher was Mr. Hatley who cost me a lot of money over the years buying books about history! Never was bored in his class as he had a way with reaching out to you in a way that you paid attention to what he was teaching. RIP Mr. Hatley you were one of my hero's!
One of the Best Teachers ever. There are a handful of teachers in my lifetime that proved to be Great Teachers with values and morals and he was definitely one of them. Rest In Peace. He definitely received my respect then and now. Prayers for his remaining Family and All who suffers this loss.

I wonder how many of his former students became teachers because they were inspired by Mr. Hatley. Count me among them. I have lots of good memories of my teachers at South Stanly High, especially Mr. Hatley. I so enjoyed U.S. History with him, as well as a senior class called "World Affairs." I believe Mr. Hatley created that class, and our "textbook" was Time Magazine. It was quite evident that he enjoyed teaching it as much as we students enjoyed being in the class. Mr. Hatley was a true gentleman, a gentle gentleman - a real role model for so many of us. My class (1970) just held its 50th reunion, and I'm sure many of us have similar fond memories of this fine man and his impact on our lives. Mr. Hatley was a wonderful man and teacher. He was my US History teacher at South Stanly. He was fair, kind, and genuinely cared for his students.
Mr Hatley was the best History teacher I ever had. I always tried to get him to express his opinion on some topic and he would never state his opinion. So he only taught us History which I think is remarkable. He was also very good at holding the students' attention and he has a very good man. He made a tremendous impression on me and I have always remembered him.
