I wonder how many of his former students became teachers because they were inspired by Mr. Hatley. Count me among them. I have lots of good memories of my teachers at South Stanly High, especially Mr. Hatley. I so enjoyed U.S. History with him, as well as a senior class called "World Affairs." I believe Mr. Hatley created that class, and our "textbook" was Time Magazine. It was quite evident that he enjoyed teaching it as much as we students enjoyed being in the class. Mr. Hatley was a true gentleman, a gentle gentleman - a real role model for so many of us. My class (1970) just held its 50th reunion, and I'm sure many of us have similar fond memories of this fine man and his impact on our lives. My sympathies to the family and all who loved him. - Irv Crump
