Grover Lamar (Jack/Red) Tolbert, 87, was born January 23, 1932 in Athens, GA.? He went to celebrate Easter with The Lord and his loving wife on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 3:50 PM at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, North Carolina.? ?His funeral service will be 4 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Landon Keziah and Rev. Roy Lee Barbee officiating.? Burial will follow in the church cemetery.? The family will receive friends at the church from 3 until 4 prior to the hour of the service.?
He was the son of the late Eunie Mae Simmons and the late
Clifford Simmons of Kannapolis, NC. He
was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Bessie Ruth Barbee Tolbert
on February 1, 2018. He is survived by
his three daughters, Cynthia Long of Locust, Judy Grismer of Oakboro, and Jackie
Hartsell of Albemarle. He left behind 10
grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Evie
Griffin and Betty (Hal) Robinson of Concord, NC and Karen Shelton of Kannapolis,
NC. His brothers Onnie and Lonnie Simmons
and his sisters Virginia Safrit and Dorothy Waller also preceded him in
death. He also left behind many, many nieces
and nephews.
Mr. Tolbert worked 20 plus years for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis,
NC and 20 plus years for R. H. Bouligny in Charlotte. He was a hard-working man who was devoted to
his family and did his best to provide for all of them. He was
a jack of all trades ? there wasn?t anything he couldn?t fix. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and
cared for him.
