Greta Arbutus Burris' Obituary
Greta Arbutus Burris, 93, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of Albemarle, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle, officiated by Pastor David Franks. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation.
Born on March 16, 1932, in Stanly County, Greta was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ida Burris. She is lovingly survived by her foster daughter, Judy Waterman of Kansas City, MO, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Carlton Morton.

Burris, Anita Wallis (Bill), David Burris (Alesia), Jeremy Burris, David Burris, Jr. (Melanie), Abigail Baker (Andrew), Rebecca Burris Spires, Stephanie Spires, and Micah Spires.
Greta is preceded in death by all of her siblings.
Affectionately known as “Auntie” to countless others, Greta’s generous spirit touched everyone she met. She was a proud graduate of Albemarle High School and Lee University. She retired from a long and dedicated career in the insurance industry. A devoted and enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan, Greta lived life with kindness, generosity, and an unwavering willingness to help; if she could give, she did so wholeheartedly.
