When I first saw Glenn Mabry in a church musical production, he was singing about going on a second honeymoon. Later, as I talked with him, I found myself wondering how such a stern man could sing such a tender song, but over the years I learned that beneath that gruff exterior was a man whose heart was filled with love. Love for his precious wife, Sharon, love for his three amazing sons, love for his grand babies, love for his extended family, love for his church family , love for his community but most especially love for his Savior, Jesus Christ.
When I remember the countless ways, Glenn shared God’s love, I think about his devotion to children and youth. Whether he was coaching them in a sport, teaching them in Sunday School or listening to them talk, it was evident that he cared.
Our family is thankful for the love and wisdom of Glenn Mabry. We know that we are blessed to have had him him in our lives and have many sweet memories of him. Perhaps, my most cherished memory took place at the Locust Christmas parade last year. We spotted Glenn and went over to spend a little time catching up then we headed to find a spot to watch the parade and Glenn disappeared into the crowd. A few moments later, I saw Glenn walking up the sidewalk and stopping to talk to people. He was passing out pens and information about upcoming church services. His walk was slower, his steps were careful ,but the one thing that was the same was the joy on his face as he shared Jesus with others.
