Gerard Paul Pion's Obituary
Gerard Paul Pion, 78, of Albemarle, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his home. There will be a celebration of life service at 2pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in the Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel of Albemarle for Gerard and his wife, Kathleen McConnell, who preceded him in death on November 10, 2021. The family will receive friends from 12pm until 1:30pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Pion was born February 23, 1945 in Washington, DC, to the late Maurice Pion and Mary Jeanne Ziegler Pion. He retired from the United States Airforce in 1986 as a Master Sargent. He also retired from Corning in Midland, NC. Gerard was a fisherman, and he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the AMVET Post 910, serving at the local level and served as State Commander.
Gerard is survived by a son, Gerard P. Pion, Jr. (Melanie) of Albemarle, NC; two daughters, Teresa Shepherd (Darryl) of Kannapolis, NC and Jennifer Upright (Mike) of Troutman, NC; three sisters, Pam Miale of RI, Debbie Martin of VT and Wendy Marshall of Albemarle, NC; seven grandchildren, Sarah Pion (Marco) of Albemarle, NC, John Pion of Albemarle, NC, Rebecca White (Austin) of Salisbury, NC, Danielle Boone of Albemarle, NC, Samantha Reed (Adam) of Statesville, NC, Elizabeth Stephens (Nicholas) of Statesville, NC and Nathaniel Pion of Albemarle, NC and eight great-grandchildren. Gerard is also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Jolene Carter and one sister, Carol Dandeneau.
