Gary Lee Whitmire's Obituary
Gary Lee Whitmire, 72, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Born on January 5, 1954, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Dewey Lee Whitmire and Catherine Virginia Teeter Whitmire.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Davis Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Chris Baucom officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, George Whitmire, Fred Whitmire, and Mike Whitmire, and his sisters, Becky Freeman and Deborah Whitmire.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Brian Whitmire (Crystal) of Monroe, NC; Steve Whitmire (Ashlyn) of Kernersville, NC; Josh Grant of Shelby, NC; George Whitmire (Heather) of Waxhaw, NC; Amy Evans (Steve) of Gibsonville, NC and Chenelle Brown (Jaron) of Concord, NC. He was a proud grandfather to Lindsey, Catherine, Payton, Steven, Ethan, Parker, Clarissa, Chelsea, Liam, Penelope, Kaitlyn, Nathan, Samuel, Ava, and Thomas, and a loving great-grandfather to Ava.
Gary was a hardworking man who devoted his life to providing for and loving his family. He worked for many years as a truck driver, later becoming a copier technician, and was also an entrepreneur, known for his strong work ethic and determination. A man of discipline and focus, Gary was proud to hold a 4th degree black belt in martial arts, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication and perseverance.
In his free time, Gary enjoyed traveling and fishing, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, who brought him immense joy. He will be remembered as a loving, dedicated family man whose presence and guidance will be deeply missed.
