Gary Wayne Herlocker's Obituary
Gary Wayne Herlocker, 82, of Albemarle, passed away on July 23, 2026, at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Salisbury National Cemetery, officiated by Pastor David Cochran. His body will lie in state at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle from 9 am until 5 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 for those wishing to pay their respects.
Born on November 11, 1943, in Stanly County, North Carolina, Gary was the son of the late Hubert Herlocker and Jessie Hand Herlocker. He was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church and spent much of his life as a farmer. He was a veteran of the US Army. Known for his strong work ethic, Gary dedicated himself to the demands of farming and took pride in a lifetime of hard work. He also enjoyed car shows, farm shows and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Barbee Herlocker; his sons, Charles Herlocker (Karen) of Albemarle and Wes Herlocker of Albemarle; and his daughter, Marsha Combs (Michael) of Albemarle. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Emma Coley (Jerrod), Austin Herlocker (Caitlin), Marshall Herlocker (Hannah), Jax Herlocker, Bella Herlocker, Patterson Herlocker, Lilly Combs, and Sophie Combs; and two great-grandchildren, James Coley and Charlie Coley.
Gary will be remembered for his dedication to farming and the perseverance and work ethic that defined much of his life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bethany United Methodist Church (2411 US Hwy 52 N, Albemarle, NC - Checks made to Bethany United Methodist Church) or Stanly County Shriners | Herlocker Memorial (PO Box 411 Albemarle, NC 28002).
